21 Day Fix and Pregnancy

As I reach the 30 week mark of my pregnancy I sat here reflecting this past weekend about my two pregnancies and how they've been SO very different. Not so much in the stereotypical "one was a boy one is a girl" difference but in the way I have PERSONALLY made them different. You often hear women tell stories of gaining 50+ pounds during pregnancy or say things like "well the baby wants it" or "I'm eating for two after all" and that couldn't be further from the truth!! YES ~ there are absolutely some women who just naturally gain a lot even while being healthy. But the eating for two myth is crossing into scary waters.

With my first pregnancy I walked on the treadmill for a couple weeks and ate healthy for the most part. I managed to gain only 32 pounds which is great, but it was the POST baby that was the problem. I knew nothing about nutrition and completely stopped working out. My body was not prepared to shed the weight, in fact it held on to it for almost an entire year!!! My son was 8 months old and I was still wearing maternity pants. I was sad, depressed, hid from pictures and avoided all social situations like the plague.

I knew with this second pregnancy I was going to go into it having a game plan and continue to strengthen my body DURING the pregnancy so that after will be a little easier. Between my two pregnancies I was able to successfully lose 50 pounds, then SURPRISE!!! Baby #2!! I'm not gonna lie it has been hard to see the scale go back up but I've stopped weighing and started just doing what I know is right. I have been following the 21 Day Fix program and I feel a million times better. The funny thing is that I've already met that 32 pound weight gain this time, but I look smaller, I weigh less and I feel strong! So how am I doing it?

I continue to follow the 21 Day Fix meal plan (with my doctors approval) and in fact for the most part I stay in the same calorie range I was in before I got pregnant. If I'm more hungry I have an extra snack of fruit and nuts or veggies and hummus or hard boiled eggs but always staying within the programs guidelines. I love how this program is NOT about starvation, counting calories or depriving yourself of certain food groups. And that it IS about eating a well balanced diet, incorporating correct portion sizes and following a clean eating lifestyle. PLUS I get to enjoy my chocolate Shakeology every day fueling both myself AND baby with a daily dose of nutrition!!

I am also following the 21 Day Fix workouts as well. I was able to do them 100% until about the end of the second trimester and now its a bit more modified. Its harder to push up the same weight when I have an additional 30 pounds on my body too. I feel very strongly about listening to my body and not trying to push it too far.

So with 10 weeks remaining, I will continue to follow the 21 Day Fix meal plans, follow the modified workouts and start transitioning into walking as the big day gets closer!!

If YOU are pregnant, thinking about getting pregnant or are a new mommy thinking about doing the 21 Day Fix I would LOVE to chat with you!! Of course its a must you talk to your doctor too but I just LOVE to share my journey with everyone and share how you can make this a simple lifestyle change while keeping both you and baby healthy!!
